Maximalist Townhome
Main living space Townhome | St. Augustine, FL
Creative Brief
It all began with
a mushroom stool and rug .
The homeowner gave me full creative control so I couldn’t resist showcasing the whimsy and vividness of the decor colors in the room. The color blobs in the rug and the fun mushroom stool sparked a whimsical enchanted forest with mature colors.
The first floor is an open floorplan, so each element was intentionally painted to honor the sections of the living space and tie them into one another.

Design
The blobs were to be the central shapes with illustrative plants to add detailed interest. Where the flowers details overlap, the colors invert to eliminate any depth that could have occurred from overlapping. I wanted to ensure a storybook feel and play with the shapes in the room without overpowering any decor that already existed.
Location: Single-family townhome part of a new development neighborhood in St. Augustine.
Room: Open floorplan main living area with stairs leading up to the bedrooms and office.
Total supply cost: $180
Size: 10ft ceilings, main space 40ft x 20ft
the process
Colors: Inspired by the rug in the middle of the tv area and pulled for tonal variation within a few key tones. I absolutely LOVED these colors.
Technique: All hand-painted free-hand.
Planning: Started from a few inspiration images for style, then just began painting one piece at a time. When I saw there was an empty or singular space, I added another curve or detail for connection and similar visual weight.
Interior Decor Note: I could have gone more muted, but every other piece had its own eclectic personality. By adding these bold pieces throughout the walls I could tie in each of these elements without overpowering them. I also helped add weight to the walls across from the gallery wall without having to purchase more individual pieces of art and/or frames, saving money.
