Grassland Forest
dining room | smoky mountains, TN
Creative Brief
It all began with a
color and a view.
This dining room backs up to a window view of a beautiful forest in the Smoky Mountains.
Inspired by the scenery just outside, we went with a design to complement the beauty of all the vertical lines made by the forest and stand out at night. By choosing a 2-tone, simple, organic design, the daylight creates beautiful shadows to help accent the window view while popping at nighttime with the windows closed.

the process
Colors: Complementing the full space with backyard views, we color-matched the existing blue with only 40% tint to create the 2-toned effect.
Technique: All hand-painted free-hand.
Planning: Pulled inspiration photos as references for grasses, carpenter bees, and hummingbirds.
Timing: 24 hours, including a sleep
Interior Decor Note: One great benefit of painting a bold pattern is removing the need for hanging and updating wall/room decor. After the paint was dry, we realized the original hanging plants and decor could be moved to other areas of the house.
