Creative Brief
It all began with…
A baby on the way
A baby is on the way, and the expecting couple wanted to transform their former office to a tranquil, happy sanctuary for their first child. They aren’t going to stay in this house forever, so they wanted to be a bit more minimalistic with design while still getting the warm feeling when walking into this room.
A huge fan of Disney, they decided on a Winnie the Pooh theme but didn’t want to be too obvious about it. I dove deep into Winnie the Pooh’s different illustration styles, small details in scenery designs, and we both fell in love with the idea of specially-crafted bees at focal points around the room.

Design
Unique design built through the natural curves of lines created by the path of bees. We painted the whole room “Heffalump” purple to lighten the whole space. Accents are done with extra yellow I had mixed with a light stone color that will be used on all the furniture for continuity and softness. Each bee is drawn to be unique like a snowflake.
Location: Single-family home located in the suburbs of Kansas City, MO.
Room: Front bedroom converted from an office to a nursery.
Total supply cost: $210 (including base color, 2 gallons og paint for furniture)
Size: 20ft x 15ft room, vaulted ceiling
the process
Duration: 1.5 days for wall prep + paint base coat, 1 day for bee details
Technique: All hand-painted free-hand
Planning: Collaborative inspiration process for the bee design and color selection. The rest was taking pictures asking for feedback as I was solidifying my illustration style.
Additional Note: I REALLY wanted to add bee details on the bookcase, so I also painted that with the light-stone base coat so I could do it before I left.
Detail Feature
With every project, I try to add a special detail for the homeowners. Hidden in the room are the initials of the mom, dad, and soon-to-be-baby.
Mom and Dad are overlooking the baby’s crib, always watching out for her.
Baby’s initials are covering a scratch in the mirror at the bottom, looking back at her when shes getting ready and laying down.
